Woman with autism, Down Syndrome proud to be “Master Shredder”

Emma Lynam wears her “Master Shredder” shirt with pride. It’s the name of her business.

Emma has Down Syndrome and is on the autism spectrum. Her mom, Jo, worried about her daughter’s future because employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities are few and far between. Then one day she took her daughter to an office to learn work skills but Emma wasn’t interested in anything except shredding paper.

So Jo reached out to businesses to find Emma a job shredding paper until a Credit Union gave her a chance. It turns out the fact that Emma cannot read or write made her an ideal candidate for shredding confidential documents. Watch Emma’s story above.
